Beauty picks for Winter, 2017

Skin Care:

Winter is almost officially here, and that means dreaded dry skin for almost everyone.  Yuck!  If you've been reading this blog for a while, you know that I'm all about limiting the amount of toxic chemicals I put on my skin.  I am not able to totally get rid of all of them, but I've greatly reduced the amount of junk directly applied to my body (which, in turn, is directly absorbed into my body.  Learn more about it in the video at the bottom of this post.)

I've found a wonderful line of organic, all-natural skin care products that heal dry skin without loading you up with a bunch of stuff that you can't pronounce.

Organic Fields of Heather offers all kinds of facial and body products that are coconut oil and cocoa butter based.  Handmade in New Hampshire in small batches, these yummy-smelling lotions, scrubs and aluminum-free deodorants are super affordable and beautifully effective.   My favorite dry skin zapper is the Egyptian Jasmine Organic Daily Moisturizing Body Cream.  It has organic aloe vera, Vitamin C, cocoa butter, shea butter, coconut oil, olive oil, beeswax and organic vanilla and jasmine essential oils.  You'd think the fragrance would be more flowery, but it actually smells like something you'd want to eat.  This stuff completely transformed my cracked heels, and it never leaves an oily residue.  Check it out!

I also really love the Vanilla Cocoa Facial Moisturizer.  It's perfect to slather on at night -- the fragrance will send you off to dreamland in a delicious cloud of all-natural goodness, and you'll wake up with baby soft, moisturized skin.

A Great Eye Makeup Solution:

You know how eyeliner tends to smudge upward onto your eyelid?  I hate it when I check a mirror midday and realize my cat eye has transformed from Bridget Bardot cool into OMG-you-look-like-you've-been-napping-at-work sloppy.  I'm not a big fan of liquid liners, but I hate the way eyeliner pencils don't stay put.

I discovered a great eyeliner sealer (and I've tried many) from E.L.F.  It comes with an eyeshadow primer than I'm not crazy about -- I prefer Shadow Insurance by Two Faced -- but it's inexpensive enough to just buy it for the sealer.

What I love about this is that it absolutely does not change the look of pencil liner.  It doesn't make it look like liquid liner, it just makes the pencil stay exactly where you apply it.  Yes!
End of the day and my cat eye isn't smudged.

You can also use it to create liner out of eyeshadow, but I haven't tried that.

Stay gorgeous this winter, contrairistas!
